FAQ Recipients

Are there any requirements to get items from ReCARES?
No. All people are welcome. At times we need to help those in the greatest need first, such as the homeless and uninsured.

What does it cost?
There is no charge for the items we give away. Financial donations are always welcome. We do not rent, sell, or loan equipment.

What do you have?
We almost always have: canes, commodes, shower chairs, crutches, standard two-wheeled walkers, toilet risers, cushions, blood pressure monitors, diabetic test equipment, nebulizers, CPAP, BiPAP, occupational therapy supplies like as sock aids and dressing sticks, ice machines, briefs, chux, gauze, cleansers.

Do you have indoor stair lifts?
Occasionally. We work with Accessible Home Lift Company in Alameda, 510-521-9526. If you or someone you know needs a stair lift call us. If we have one available we would be happy to provide it to you. Accessible Home Lift can provide installation and a one year warranty for a reasonable cost.

What items are in short supply?
Tub transfer benches, wheelchairs, power wheelchairs, electric scooters and four-wheeled walkers with seats and brakes. Requests for these items far exceed available donations. We try our best to prioritize for those in the greatest need. Because there are so many people looking for these items we no longer are able to keep waiting lists.

Is there paperwork to sign?
You are asked to sign a liability waiver when you receive equipment from us. The equipment is yours to do with as you wish however we ask you not to sell it. Give it away or re-donate it to our program when you no longer need it.

Will you deliver?
Not usually. We have no vehicles. Occasionally we may make exceptions in certain circumstances. Call for details.

Are you open every week?
Yes, we only close on major holidays such as Christmas or Thanksgiving.

Can you repair broken items?
It depends on the availability and skills of volunteers at each site. We do not have a budget to make repairs or buy parts.
